Former giants Savanne SC and Union Sportive de Trou-aux-Biches (USTAB) have both been relegated to the National Division Two following a difficult 2024/25 National Division One season. The demotion marks a significant low point for both clubs and highlights a sharp decline in their recent performances.
For Savanne SC, the fall is particularly striking. A club once celebrated for its triumphs in the early 2000s—when it lifted several major domestic trophies—Savanne SC finds itself at its lowest ebb. Just a year after being relegated from the National Super League, the southern club endured another dismal campaign, finishing last in Division One with only 2 wins and 1 draw from 18 matches.
Meanwhile, USTAB also failed to rise to the occasion. The Trou-aux-Biches side managed just 10 points and will now drop to the third tier after two consecutive seasons in Division One. The club struggled for consistency and failed to find form throughout the campaign, ultimately sealing its fate.
“It’s a bitter outcome, and both clubs now face a critical moment in their histories,” said one football analyst. “If they fail to bounce back quickly, there’s a real danger of sliding further into the regional leagues.”
As the 2025/26 season approaches, both clubs will need to regroup, rebuild, and respond to growing pressure from supporters and management alike. Their focus will now be on stabilizing in National Division Two and launching a comeback that could help restore their former status in Mauritian football.
