La Cure Waves SC lift first major trophy

La Cure Waves SC won their first major trophy of its history on Sunday 22nd of June 2025 with a 3-0 victory over Chebel Citizen in the final of the Republic Cup.

The Waves notably relied on a brilliant performance from Ivan Ami to outclass the Citizens. Both Super League sides had a somewhat challenging league campaign — with the Port Louis-based club finishing as frustrating runners-up, while the twin cities club narrowly escaped relegation.

The final was hosted at the Auguste Vollaire Stadium in Flacq, and a large number of fans made the trip. From the opening minutes, it was the capital city club that dominated possession. Coach Jérôme Thomas’s team came into the match as favorites.

As the game wore on, the intensity ramped up, and both sides had to go into extra time. Ivan Ami quickly made his mark by opening the scoring. He was later followed by Cédric Tiatouche, who doubled the lead.

At 2-0, it became clear that the title was destined for the Port Louis side. That was confirmed when Ivan Ami completed his brace late in the match. Previously quiet throughout the season with only four goals to his name, the former US Trou-aux-Biches player stepped up when it mattered most.

For the Citizens, this season was an emotional rollercoaster. They fought hard in the league and just barely avoided falling into the relegation zone. They’ll need to come back stronger next season to avoid a repeat of this scenario.

Meanwhile, La Cure Waves continue their remarkable rise. Just two seasons ago, the club was competing in the second division. Their rapid ascent is thanks in part to heavy investment and the recruitment of key players. They sailed through Division 2 and Division 1, and even finished second in their debut season in the top flight.

The adventure isn’t over yet for Giano Li Tien Kee and his teammates. Cure Waves will play in the semi-final of the MFA Cup in three days, facing Cercle de Joachim in what promises to be a thrilling clash.
