ND1 (After Week 8): Chasing Curepipe Starlight

Chasing Curepipe Starlight

It took until the final fixture of the year to witness the first defeat of the league leaders. Previously untouchable and boasting a perfect record, Curepipe Starlight finally stumbled on the last matchday of the first round.

Somewhat to everyone’s surprise, the Curepipe-based side went down to Bolton City YC, a result that has reignited the title race in this championship. The setback has also opened the door for Black Horns, who are now firmly in the hunt.

Curepipe Starlight’s defeat proved a real boost for Black Horns. The capital club, who have also suffered just one loss this season, have closed the gap to only two points and can now realistically dream of both the title and promotion.

Behind the leading duo, a small gap has opened up. At a respectable distance, Bolton City YC have repositioned themselves in the race, alongside Upper Vale Starlight, who remain on the lookout for any slip-ups from the front-runners.

Chasing this leading quartet are GRSE Wanderers. With a game in hand, the eastern-based side are far from out of contention and should not be discounted in the battle for promotion to the higher division.

At the other end of the table, the situation is becoming increasingly difficult for La Gaulette Sharks, Grande Rivière Noire West Coast and Entente Boulet Rouge, all of whom have been cut adrift from the main pack.

At the halfway stage of the season, Entente Boulet Rouge sit bottom of the table and are in serious trouble, while La Gaulette Sharks and Grande Rivière Noire West Coast are equally involved in the relegation fight.
