NSL (Week 9): A bad day at the top

It was not a good week-end to be leading the Super League as the 2026 campaign resumed. The top three sides in the standings all went down, each falling to opponents who, on paper, appeared well within their reach.

Unbeaten leaders for most of the season, La Cure Waves were stunned by ASRR, suffering a surprising 3–1 defeat. It was a masterstroke by the northern outfit, who handed the Port-Louis club their second loss of the season, having already beaten them earlier in the Republic Cup.

La Cure Waves’ setback presented Pamplemousses SC with a golden opportunity to take over at the top of the table. However, the northern side failed to capitalise, going down 1–0 to Chebel Citizen.

At the same time, Cercle de Joachim also missed the chance to close the gap on the leaders. The reigning champions dropped valuable points against ASPL 2000, a disappointing result that saw them slide down the standings.

The big winners of this ninth round were therefore ASRR, Chebel Citizen and ASPL 2000, all of whom strengthened their positions in mid-table while moving further away from the relegation zone.

At the bottom end of the table, the situation continues to worsen for PAS Mates, who were heavily beaten 6–1 by ASVP. The Pointe-aux-Sables club remains rooted to the foot of the table, while USBBRH kept their survival hopes alive with a draw against Petite-Rivière-Noire.

All things considered, La Cure Waves may feel they escaped with limited damage, while Pamplemousses SC will surely regret not making the most of the leaders’ slip-up.
