Our Girls shine in gold at CJSOI 2025

The Mauritius U-17 girls’ football team proudly represented the nation at the 13th edition of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games, held in Seychelles from August 1st to 10th, 2025.

Mauritius began their campaign with a high-profile opening match against host nation Seychelles at the Stad Linite in Victoria. The match not only marked the kickoff of the girls’ football tournament but also served as a symbolic moment for gender inclusion in sport.

Despite a spirited performance, Mauritius fell short in the result with a defeat (0-1). However, the team showed strong tactical organisation, defensive cohesion, and flashes of attacking flair that highlighted the promise of several young players.

Throughout the group stage, the Mauritius team faced tough opposition from fellow Indian Ocean islands, including Madagascar, Comoros, and Reunion. Every match served as a learning opportunity for the players, many of whom were competing internationally for the first time.

Our girls secured the gold medal in a dramatic conclusion to the tournament. Heading into the final day, the team coached by Anielle Collet had to wait for the outcome of the match between Mayotte and the Seychelles to determine their fate.

Mayotte’s 3-2 victory over the Seychelles shifted the standings in Mauritius’ favor, allowing them to finish first on goal difference – largely thanks to their crucial 3-1 win against Mayotte earlier in the competition.

As a result, the Seychelles took the silver medal, while Mayotte claimed bronze. This gold medal marks a significant achievement for the Mauritian side, who showed consistency and determination throughout the tournament.

“These girls showed incredible courage and discipline,” said the coach Aniele Collet. “They’ve gained international experience, grown in confidence, and proven that they belong on this stage. The future of Mauritian women’s football is bright.”

Participation in the CJSOI is more than just about results – it’s a key platform for long-term development. Our Association has steadily invested in women’s football in recent years, launching new youth leagues and regional training centres. The 2025 CJSOI tournament served as an important milestone for assessing the progress of that work.
