Women Football 4 Friendship and COSAFA Cup 2022: CURTAINS DOWN for Mauritius

Curtains down for Mauritius in the Women triangular Series and the COSAFA Cup 2022. In fact, the Women Football 4 Friendship tournament has come to an end last Saturday, 9 July 2022 with the Lady Club M facing Seychelles. On the field, both teams showed their skills and character, and after a constructive action, Mauritian striker, Jerusha Ramasawmy, found herself in a position to score and gave the lead to the Lady Club M. However, playing with the same determination, Seychelles equalized by Vesna Esther, from a long-distance shot. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The award ceremony was held just after the match with Mauritius winning the trophy for Best goalkeeper and best player received by Nancy Betty (GK) and Julie Gopal (MF) respectively. On the other hand, the Seychelles striker Natacha Bibi received the Golden boot trophy and the Rodrigues national team was mentioned for the Runner up trophy and for the Fair play award.

The Women Football 4 Friendship tournament hit a big moment when, in the name of friendship, the Mauritian captain, Elodie Aliphon, handed the major trophy to the Seychelles team as both Mauritius and Seychelles ended in the 1st place of this triangular tournament.

The next edition is expected to be played in Seychelles.

The National Men’s team journey in the COSAFA Cup 2022 has also come to an end. Unfortunately, it was not easy for Mauritius to book their places in the quarter finals of the Hollywood bets Cosafa Cup 2022. The team conceded 3 losses against EswatiniLesotho and Malawi. Only a few satisfactions to put on record; one of them came from the young sticker Gordy Prosper who scored his ever Cosafa Cup goal against Lesotho.

In fact, the Mauritian team in Durban consisted of mostly young players from the U20 and U23 national squads. This first international experience will definitely help them to find the right solutions in the upcoming matches of the national team. The next match for the National Men’s team is scheduled on July 24 at Côte D’or national sports complex against Angola, another experienced African football nation.
