Women Football Meeting with Clubs’ representatives

The Mauritius Football Association (MFA) held a Women’s Football meeting today, 9th of April 2022. The meeting, chaired by Cyril Mourgine, Chairman of the Women Football Committee, in the presence of the General Secretary, Nazeer Bowud and the Technical Director, Zunaid Mall, was attended by several clubs’ representatives who raised and discussed pertinent topics on the development of women’s football in Mauritius.

Cyril Mourgine spoke in depth on the actual situation of Women Football and forthcoming projects for teams and players. He stated that a national detection for Under 17 and Under 20 girls is currently being carried away by our female coaches in different regions of the island and more than 40 Senior female players were called last week as a Pre-selection for the Women National Team.

The General Secretary, Nazeer Bowud, also communicated important updates about several programmes that the MFA is working on to empower our girls in the game and the environment needed for these efforts to take off. Some of the projects are a Women National League with a minimum club, the start of community football in different regions, encouraging teams to register their players on FIFA Connect as well as coaching courses for aspiring and confirmed female coaches, amongst others.

Furthermore, the clubs’ representatives shared their experiences of developing the game and showed their fervent support to take things further for our women’s football. The next meeting is now scheduled for the 7th of May 2022 and the MFA is expecting to welcome more clubs so that the women football can get back where it belongs. This is indeed a very encouraging sign for the development and growth of women’s football in Mauritius.
