Cercle de Joachim aims a double

They are among the best this season. Cercle de Joachim and Pamplemousses SC will face off on this Sunday 29th of June 2025 in the MFA Cup, the last trophy still up for grabs for the top-tier teams. The Curepipians are aiming for a double after winning the Super League title, while for the Northerners, this final appears to be the last opportunity for consolation after a season that has been somewhat inconsistent, having finished in third place. The kick-off will be at 3 PM at the Côte-d’Or complex.

It can be said without hesitation that the representatives of the City of Light hold the upper hand in this duel. They have had an exemplary season in the league, where they have been untouchable. In 18 matches, Cercle de Joachim has recorded 14 wins and four draws. Their attack has been firing on all cylinders, scoring 35 goals. The club has not experienced a defeat in the Super League.

Moreover, the Curepipians are coming in strong. On Wednesday, they easily dominated the Cure Waves in the semi-final, winning 3-0. The Northerners have been warned. In the Super League, the club has struggled to elevate its level of play. However, the season had started ideally with a victory in the Charity Shield. Subsequently, things became more complicated. Pamplemousses SC even finished 16 points behind the leader.

To add a bit more spice to this match, it will also be a chance for revenge. Pamplemousses SC had secured the first trophy – the Charity Shield – of the season by defeating Cercle de Joachim. The Northerners had to rely on a penalty shootout to win, the score being 0-0 at the end of regulation time. Pamplemousses SC ultimately triumphed 5-4 thanks to a save from goalkeeper Kevin Jean-Louis in particular.

In terms of the record in this competition, Pamplemousses SC has distinguished itself four times so far, winning this competition in 2009, 2016, 2018, and 2024. Last year, the Northerners won 2-0 against ASPL 2000. It is worth noting that the club will represent Mauritius in the CAF Confederation Cup, while Cercle de Joachim will participate in the CAF Champions League.
