Cercle de Joachim seal dominant season

Cercle de Joachim capped off a remarkable 2024/25 season by lifting the MFA Cup by defeating Pamplemousses SC 2–0 at the Côte-d’Or National Sports Complex. The victory completes a historic domestic double for the Curepipe-based club, following their unbeaten run to the Super League title.

In front of a packed crowd, Joachim produced a confident and controlled performance to outclass their northern rivals, who came into the final seeking redemption after a mixed league campaign.

From the outset, Cercle de Joachim looked the sharper of the two sides, with precise ball movement and structured pressing. Their efforts were rewarded in the extra-time, when Frederic Sarah opened the scoring with a clinical finish after a sweeping team move.

Pamplemousses SC, despite boasting a strong cup pedigree, struggled to find rhythm. Their attempts at recovery were snuffed out by Joachim’s disciplined defensive setup, despite its numeric inferiority on the field with the expulsion of Brandon Citorah.

The game was effectively sealed when Willian Francois doubled the lead with a stunning long-range free-kicik, capitalising on a defensive lapse.

Despite late pressure from the Northerners, Cercle de Joachim secured its second major trophy of the season.

This victory marks Cercle de Joachim’s first MFA Cup title and first-ever league and cup double, as last year, the club of Curepipe won the league and the Republic Cup.

The team finishes the season undefeated in all domestic competitions, further cementing their place at the summit of Mauritian football.

“It’s an extraordinary moment for the club, the players, and our fans,” said the team-manager, Mohamed Yousouf. “We set high targets this season, and achieving the double is a dream come true. Credit to the team for staying focused and hungry throughout.”

Despite the defeat, Pamplemousses SC maintain their reputation as a dominant cup force. Already four-time MFA Cup winners (2009, 2016, 2018, 2024), the Northerners finish the season with a top-three league finish and a confirmed place in the CAF Confederation Cup.
