HISTORY OF MFA

The Mauritius Football Association (MFA), governing body of Football in Mauritius, was founded in 1952 as the “Mauritius Sports Association”. The MFA is a sports association as provided by the sports Act 2001 and hereafter referred to as the Association with the Motto "Our Football, Our Nation".

Affiliated to FIFA in 1962, to CAF in 1963 and to COSAFA in 1998, the Mauritius Football Association (MFA) has13 regional football committees including Rodrigues where competitions are organized at Regional and National levels regularly.

The MFA’s primary role is to organize the National Football League and has three main divisions namely the National Super league, the National Division One and the National Division Two along with cup tournaments such as the MFA cup and Republic cup.

The organization of Futsal and Beach soccer, Youth and Women’s Football, and Referee’s training also falls under the responsibility of the football association.

The first president was Claude Noel (1952) and the current president of the Mauritius Football Association is Ally Samir Sobha.

In 1984, with the introduction of the Sports ACT, the Mauritius Sports Association changed its name and statutes to become the Mauritius Football Association.

Today, The MFA manage the all Categories of the National Team, that is from Under 13 to Senior, both male and female, and has provide coaching courses to more than 10,000 coaches across Mauritius.

The mission of the MFA is to promote the sport of football at all levels, by expanding our local football fanbase, enhancing the development of the sport in Mauritius, maintaining a sustainable and powerful strategy for our National Teams through the identification, development and harnessing of young talents. To create, strengthen and assist community networks and partnerships with clubs and other stakeholders. To consolidate the quality of our leagues.
